Topic: Swapping external drives

Message: I don't think so.Once F has backed up, you will have everything currently on D and E - but anything you may have deleted from D and E over time, will of course be lost. Also bear in mind. the backup of F will not contain the previous versions you've accumulated on D and E.

Topic: Swapping external drives

Message: I have current backups for drives D and E. I am merging the drives to a single larger drive which will be F. I will then dismount D and E, and those letters may eventually get re-used for things like flash drives that don't need backup. Is there a way that I can freeze my D/E history while moving forward with F

Topic: IDrive Experiences?

Message: I recently had a dilemma – either sign up for a backup service, or purchase a stand alone hard drive. At first I decided to try a backup service.I recently found legitimate, and recent reviews of IDrive's performance, which were far beyond acceptable. This is in addition to the fact that None of the 5 or 6 backups that I scheduled ever occurred. Even after multiple telephone calls to customer service for assistance. I did have One backup that succeeded (which was not scheduled) - which was a complete system backup that a customer service rep recommended we start, which took approximately 13 hours to complete - for data in the gigabytes size range. Outside of that, EVERY other scheduled backup never happened, some had error messages with unclear causes, sent via email, some did not. The scheduler in the program even went so far as to re-schedule individual backups for two weeks in advance, without any explanation? I have no idea, using their system schedule controls, how that can even be possible. From my personal experience, the IDrive software and the company are unstable and unreliable. Perhaps it works better operating in a different OS than Windows - I have no clue. After reading many legitimate reviews, I learned that IDrive is also in no way, financially trustworthy. The tagline on IDrive's search result reads "World's most popular backup," curious as to how they came to that conclusion.Does anyone here actually trust this company with their personal files and data? After further consideration - I will be terminating my contract with IDrive, and have already ordered a substantial, external hard drive.

Another way to deal with this on a one time basis is to click on "verify now' under the Settings tab. Then in the Backup tab, you can see your backup set being re-checked. When that finishes you can click Backup Now.

Topic: IDrive error - "File / Folder does not exist"

Message: Here's the solution:When you delete files or folders, occasionally the IDrive log shows the error message "files / folders no longer exist." Why that happens is a mystery, but it's easy to correct. I've also had times where automatic nighttime backups occur but fail to back up new files. Again, who knows why. IDrive simply doesn't seem to recognize what has changed. To solve it, under Backup, hit Modify and delete one folder from backing up. That forces IDrive to reassess all backed up files to determine whether they are the most current. It takes a while, but clears out the issues above. Once that's done, go to Modify and recheck the folder. Again the reassessment process runs. Then when you run a normal backup (manual or automatic), all new files get backed up and errors go away. Software glitch, apparently, but easy to correct. I do that periodically when more bogus errors are shown.

Message: Has anyone else experienced a dramatic slowdown in their IDrive backups? I backup once a day.I logged into the IDrive web page today. It took A LONG TIME for it to display all of the devices, I am backing up to IDrive. I finally gave up waiting. Then came back 15 minutes later, by then all of my devices had displayed.I ran Speedtest on my PC, the network is fine.I updated the current version of IDrive today. We'll see if that makes a difference.

Message: I just looked at my Tracefile.txt and the Verify process is still happening at odd times, so the bug is still in there. But that doesn't really explain why your backup set isn't being verified at all. It should happen automatically at some point.

Topic: Verify backup set not occurring when it should

Message: IDrive support isn't much help. All I ever get from them is "install the latest update". I've learned more from this thread than I've learned from IDrive support. The good thing is that *I think* files that get missed from a backup do get picked up with the next day's backup.
