Message: Did you backup individual files or "entire partitions".I'm not familiar with Ashampoo, but I understand from their website you can restore a PC from a bootable "rescue" device, but I guess that's only possible if you took whole machine backups. If you only backed up important files, you would need to reinstall the OS on the new disk, reinstall all your applications, then restore your files from Ashampoo.

Topic: Ashampoo - Yet another new user in search of H E L P !!!!!

Message: Wow. Got Ashampoo Backup Pro 2021 in early February (2023) and did 27 backups on each of my frayedknotarts.com (FKA) and oldmusicproject.com (OMP) drives. Long story short, I probably had a mini-spark-flop and my computer on which I'd had FKA and OMP for years suddenly would not start up. At all. Nohow. But hey, I had >>BACKUPS<<, right?SO: How do I get to them and restore them to a (new)(SSD) 2.5" 2TB drive OR a (new) (SSD) 2.5" 1TB drive? (I also have at least one 750GB HDD 2.5" available as well as another 2 TB HDD 7200 available.)Any clues as to how one would do this ( restore to a new disk) would be greatly appreciated. I have looked all over Ashampoo's site and can't find any instructions.

Topic: CrashPlan vs IDrive cloud space used

Message: I asked Does IDrive compress the files for the backup archive? in the IDrive section (https://backupforum.progf....php?id=140). @SteveA helpfully ran a test that demonstrates that they likely DO compress the file during uploading, but they apparently use the actual file size against your quota. Here is data from my existing CrashPlan backup:Number of computers: 2Total native file size (both computers): 4.1TBTotal size of CrashPlan cloud archive: 2.1TBThis is the combined effect of de-duplication and compression. Of course, as an unlimited service, they are not self-motivated to keep the archive (apparently) as large as possible.
